I finally had my network and relationships plotted on mailana.com twitter mapper.  After I saw that @sbspalding was at the top of my list, which they label as BFF (or Best Friend Forever), I sent him a silly message on twitter.

@sbspalding Who knew? According to this you’re my twitter BFF http://tinyurl.com/dm6xj7

In response this he replied

@ITChE We should get like tattoos or something.

I took this as a fun challenge and this is the result.

Poincaré vs Web Design

I was studying some math this evening when I came across this wonderful quote from Poincaré:

Mathematicians do not deal in objects, but in relations between objects; thus, they are free to replace some objects by others so long as the relations remain unchanged.  Content to them is irrelevant: they are interested in form only.

poincareI guess I just found this interesting as it immediately caused my mind to drift towards concepts of web design.  The part about “relations between objects” conjoured up images of the semantic web.   Also, the idea that “content…is irrelavent” is counter to the current web party lines of “Content is king!” and “Content, content, content!”.   Despite this, maybe Poincaré was onto something, as it seems that in many cases more time is spent on glitz and design before any content is ever generated.  By contrast, I live much of my life in a land which operates on the other side of the curve, engineering and science.  Where all that is ever considered is content and little, if no, time is spent on presentation and form.  I think the right approach lies somewhere in the middle.

BLOGbaseMe(Introductions) = Hello world!

I have never been a stranger to technology, and so I will begin this blog in the way I begin all such technological endeavors with a “Hello world!”.  I have now written that statement or its equivalent so many times, in the context of many different systems and programming languages, that I have lost count.   But alas I am not a programmer…

What (or better who) am I then you might ask, I am an autodidact, or as Richard Feynman might have described, a curious character.  I want to know the hows and whys behind almost anything that I find intriguing.   And when I do find out something new and wonderful; I want to teach, inform and show others what can be done with this knowledge.   And this is why I also consider myself a raconteur; I love to tell a good story, as well as uncover one.

I don’t really find maintaining a blog to be challenging at all.  The challenge for me will be in seeing what I can do with this blog and how I can encorporate it into my overall presence which I have been building on the web.   My other challenge will be to both post items that will be interesting to others as well as myself.  I plan on posting to this blog stories about things that interest me, discoveries that I’ve made, ideas that I would like to explore and any random items that have inspired me.

So, as is often the case, it is now very early (1:19 AM on Sunday morning) and I must get to bed.   Big trucks are coming in the moring to remove 9 tree stumps so we can plant our blueberry bushes this spring, but this is a story for another day…good night.
